About me
Born in Oregon, raised in Colorado, taught in Washington.
I always enjoyed art, however I pursued STEM subjects for the majority of my pre-college life. In fact, my high school was STEM specialized. While I was good at chemistry and engineering, I knew I wouldn’t be happy if I didn’t follow my love for art.
I decided to move up to Washington in 2018 to attend DigiPen Institute of Technology and achieve my dreams of working on animated films. Since then, I’ve met so many wonderful people and learned a lot; both about myself and about art as a whole.
Originally, my goal was to go into 2D animation. I was dead set on it. However, I was curious about rigging and decided to take a class on it. I instantly fell in love. It combines my love for art and my love for engineering. My scientific side had been itching to come out of the woodwork, and the more I learned the more the beast was tamed.
I’m a big fan of bugs and nature. You’ll often see me pointing out small things I like, for example the way light is shining on moss, the texture of a tree, the weathering on an old building… Nothing ceases to amaze me, I’m told. I enjoy exploring and I’ve travelled a lot in my life. Sometimes I even take 3 hour drives for fun, whether I have a destination in mind or not.
Some of my favorite animated features include Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Coraline, Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Wendell and Wild, and Anomalisa. However, that’s barely the tip of the iceberg.
I remember when I first saw The Prince of Egypt, that was what made me finally decide to be an animator. Watching the scene with the parted seas almost made me cry. The sheer amount of love and hard work put into animated features is awe-inspiring.
Some video games I’ve been playing recently are Minecraft, Yume Nikki, Final Fantasy 14, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, No Man’s Sky, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As you can see, my love for exploration and nature cross into the digital realm, as well. I also play a few Table Top RPGs, including Monster of the Week, Dungeons and Dragons, Lancer, and All Flesh Must Be Eaten.
